Dr. Dong Kim, neurosurgeon and Director of the Mischer Neuroscience Institute pulled back the curtain on a brain tumor resection during a live twittercast.

The rapid play-by-play includes all steps of a brain tumor removal, including surgery prep, removal of the bone flap, resection of the brain tumor and closing the site. Dr. Dong Kim, M.D.As director of the Mischer Neuroscience Institute, Dr. Dong Kim leads the clinical neuroscience efforts for the Memorial Hermann Healthcare System as well as The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) Medical School. Dr. Kim is noted for his research into brain aneurysms and for his role in the surgery and recovery of U.S. Representative Gabrielle Giffords.
Dr. Kim is a graduate of Stanford University and the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) School of Medicine. After general surgery training at Harvard, he completed his neurosurgery training at UCSF. He went on to complete a fellowship in cerebrovascular surgery and skull base tumors with Dr. Arthur Day.
Dr. Kim's specialties include brain tumor, skull base tumor, meningioma, arteriovenous malformation (AVM), intracranial aneurysm, carotid disease, trigeminal neuralgia and Chiari malformation.

Dr. Scott Shepard, M.D.Brain tumor specialist Dr. Scott Shepard is the Director of the Gamma Knife Radiosurgery program at the Mischer Neuroscience Institute and Clinical Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at UTHealth Medical School.
Dr. Shepard is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and Weill Cornell Medical College. After residency at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), he completed fellowships at the Brain Tumor Research Center and the CNS Injury and Edema Center at UCSF and in surgical neuro-oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Hospital.
Dr. Shepard's areas of interest include neurooncological brain surgery, spine and general neurosurgery.
