The Neurorehabilitation Program at the Mischer Neuroscience Institute completes the neurological continuum of care. The Neurorehabilitation Program offers a comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services, state-of-the-art technology and innovative therapies and techniques.
Care is provided in a 23-bed rehabilitation unit at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center. Our areas of focus include stroke, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, spinal cord injury, neurodegenerative disorders and general neurorehabilitation.
The multidisciplinary neurorehabilitation team includes:
- Physicians (neurologist or physiatrist)
- Physical therapist
- Occupational therapist
- Speech therapist
- Nurse practitioner
- Rehabilitation nurse
- Case manager
- Social worker
Upon admission, patients and their families discuss their goals with our neurorehabilitation team. Together, we develop an individualized treatment plan to reach identified goals, as well as offer intensive medical care for associated medical problems, such as hypertension, diabetes, chronic renal failure and cardiopulmonary disease.
Outpatient therapy programs and services are offered in collaboration with TIRR Memorial Hermann Adult and Pediatric Outpatient Rehabilitation at the Kirby Glen Center just outside the Texas Medical Center. This facility offers more than 60 therapists with neurological expertise, neurorehabilitation day programs and the top-rated cognitive and community reintegration program in the region. We also provide educational material and community resource information to the patient and caregiver, as well as monthly support groups.
TIRR Memorial Hermann is designated as a Model System by the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR) for its traumatic brain injury program and provides follow-up data for the NIDRR spinal cord injury program. For over 20 consecutive years, U.S. News & World Report has named TIRR Memorial Hermann to its list of America's Best Hospitals.

Strength Unlimited is a community-based wellness and activity program designed to provide an enriched environment for individuals with physical disabilities along the continuum of care. It offers a fully adapted fitness and wellness center with trained professionals to tailor the program to the individual's needs. It facilitates the progress toward lifelong health and wellness through effective, evidence-based health promotion models.
